I’ve gotten used to the subtle scents of natural beauty products. In a way, this is a good thing, as I feel as if phthalates have made us hard wired to think that we need our body wash to smell heavily like fake floral or fruit scents. I like smelling clean, not like my great aunt’s perfume cabinet. That said, because you’re hard wired to want to smell like a fruit salad, sometimes, that’s not such a bad thing. Good smells are appealing, and are great memory triggers. Sometimes, you just want to smell like a girl.
Enter the 100% Pure beauty line. I came across this line of products and saw a pink grapefruit body wash and I had to try it. I don’t know what it is about me and pink grapefruit, but I love it. I had been looking for one about a year before all of the chemically laden bath companies released them. What can I say, I’m ahead of my time.
When I first poured some of the body wash on my washcloth, I was surprised. It’s kind of…watery. I was a little disappointed because I figured that watery = no lather. I worried over nothing. It held a nice mild lather with one single application and left my skin feeling soft and smooth. In fact, when I shaved afterwards, my skin felt great. Not tight and dry like it normally does.
I topped my shower off with one of their awesome body creams, in honey pear, which was just like the old days. It was so fragrant and nice. And you know what? My skin is STILL smooth after being in jeans all day. And no lotion has ever done that. Especially when winter has appeared on our front door overnight and the dry heat has been running.
The 100% Pure products contain no synthetic chemicals or fillers of any kind. Everything is scented with fruit extracts and smells great. They have a wide variety of products, including fruit pigmented cosmetics, a full line of facial care and body care. This is a product line that I will always keep on hand.

Since having to give up my Lush bath products (we’ll get to that post another day, ladies), I’ve been watching my garden tub with a lot of sadness and misery. Having a toddler means that taking a plain bath, while also enjoyable, is just not good enough. I need fluff and froofy girly bath products. I need something tactile.
So when I stumbled upon Moodygurl’s bath products, I immediately had to try them. I’ve been looking for sugar scrubs and bubble bars for awhile now and Moodygurl has both. I tried the pink grapefruit sugar scrub out, which smells heavenly. Nice and light. It works well and doesn’t dry out my skin. I can probably use this to exfoliate my face.
The bath taffy. Holy mother. It’s in a word… AWESOME! It’s very creamy and half a bar will make more than enough bubbles. The best part is that it’s free of SLS’s, even though it makes enough bubbles to last your whole bath (I hate it when the bubbles disappear half way through).
Most of Moodygurl’s products are made from natural ingredients, however there are a few scents where fragrance oils are utilized, and those are: Portland Rain, Cherry Blossom and Coconut Lime. All others are made with natural essential oils and have just enough of a scent for it to be pleasing, but not overpowering. I can’t handle strong scents anymore, so this works for me.
She also has some great “Moody Mud, which is like aromatherapy and play-doh mixed together. Great for stress relief and just all around fun.
Get It: You can order any of the products listed direct from Moodygurl’s Etsy site. Seriously, what did I do before Etsy was around?

Ok ladies. I have a new *must have* line of products for you. In a late night search I found LuSa Organics. I immediately started drooling over their products. Since I first tried a few delectable items I jumped back online and ordered $80 more. LuSa Organics is a family run business, a very cute family with 2 adorable little kids and a whole slew of inspired and luxurious bath goodies that cater to women, mom and baby.
I am seriously addicted, and it’s been a while since I found a line that I really truly loved in that “buy my self a girly treat” sort of way. First, I am totally committed to their unbelievable Organic Sugar Scrubs. I tend to
prefer sugar scrubs in general but this one is really amazing because it’s not a big sloppy scrub which I find doesn’t have as much “scrub” and more “goop”. This one though is a tin packed with organic sugar so you really get your scrubs worth on one scoop. They smell good, they scrub great and moisturize the toughest spots. I attribute my now smooth arms and legs to this scrub. Seriously, even my husband commented on my softness. I. Love. It. The Mint scrub leaves you feeling clean and sparkly and the Lavender scrub is a soothing treat for the skin. This is my must-have bath treat.
Also? Lotion Bars. I have never used a lotion bar before but I was dying to try it. I don’t know if this is the right way to use one but I take the whole thing out of its pretty tin and rub it all over feet and hands before bed. I swear, he next morning I wake up with the softest feet and hands. My lavender Lotion Bar is now a permanent fixture on my night stand. These are great for traveling too, no trying to drag a big silly pump in your travel bag or risking a tube opening up accidentally. Lotion Bar is my new staple beauty item.
Their fresh goats milk handcrafted soaps are all unbelievably fresh smelling. I have a bar of Ylang Ylang and Lavender in my shower and I reach for it over all the others. It lathers perfectly and the smell… oh heaven.
I could go on for eternity, but I assure you all their products are divine. They carry Belly Balms, Diaper Balms, Essential Oils… I promise you, you will not be disappointed. LuSa Organics has a cool Soap of the Month Club too which would make a great gift (HINT HINT) and they have some lovely Gift Collections for New Mom and Baby.
Lovely SafeMama Winner! Ok not only do I absolutely adore this company and their products but everything they carry is totally natural, organic when possible and they use sustainable and local ingredients to craft their wonderful goodies. They also donate 10% of their profits to organizations generating positive global change.
Get it: LuSa Organics has so graciously offered our readers a special promotion. When ordering from their website enter “LovelySafeMama Freebie” in the comments field on checkout (not the coupon box, comments field) and they’ll toss in a free gift with your order. Thank you LuSa Organics!

A few months ago, my husband was in Boston, and stumbled across this eco-boutique. Knowing my passion for girly things and my new passion for girly things that are better for my skin, he perused and came home with a couple of products from the Aromafloria line. What, doesn’t every woman’s husband go searching for eco friendly beauty products for their wife?
He bought me the pomegranate salt glow scrub which smells heavenly. It makes me look forward to taking baths again. It’s VERY fragrant with essential oils, which I do like. I wish they also made it in a sugar scrub, because the salt does tend to dry out my skin, leaving it feeling tight. On second thought, maybe the firming qualities isn’t a bad thing. But as a general rule, salt is drying. So I use this in moderation.
Aromafloria’s products are made with organic (when possible) essential oils, as well as fair trade, when possible. They’re also free from icky preservatives and petrochemicals, making your indulgence guilt free.

I picked up a travel set of products from Nature’s Paradise not too long ago. I was intrigued in this Certified Organic product line and they had a vast array of yummy smells to pick from. I loaded up on Creamy Coconut Lotion (very moisturizing and tropical smelling), Tropical Mango Body Cream and their Pomegranate Love Body Wash.
This company has a wide range of body care products and if you look at the ingredients label on any product, it looks more like a fresh fruit brunch menu rather than an ingredients list. I think one of my favorite products in the Creamy Coconut Lotion which is a really rich creamy lotion that absorbs quick and leaves you feeling almost powdery soft and smelling like fresh coconuts. And check out the ingredients:
Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Shea Butter, Organic Jojoba Oil, Organic Sunflower Oil, Organic Arrowroot Powder, Organic Liquid Lecithin, Organic Coconut Extract, Organic Clarified Lemon Juice, Water
It doesn’t get much more natural than that! I looooove the smell. I have a small crush on their travel size body wash too because it comes in a foam pump so I’ve been using it up at the gym. I hate dragging loofahs or washcloths with me and the instant foam makes getting in a quick spa treatment possible. Who doesn’t like to smell of fresh pomegranates after a workout?
All of Nature’s Paradise products are Certified Organic, are completely Vegan, not tested on animals, and free of icky synthetic ingredients, petrochemicals or artifical fragrances. Just pure awesome natural products. Nature’s Paradise carries a whole Baby Line as well. I haven’t tried them but I hear Jessica Alba has!

I’d been on the hunt for a new soap for awhile. A long time Cetaphil girl, I was looking to find something that would be safe, and also work as well on my face. I’m leery of bar soaps, because they tend to dry out my face more than a traditional face wash, but I was having a hard time finding a liquid face wash that lathered enough to make my face feel clean.
I walked by the Dr. Bronner’s display quite a few times, eyeing it up cautiously before finally relenting and purchasing a bar. And I really wish I hadn’t waited so long, because I really love it. I tend to have combination skin, and not the typical T-zone. My face is both dry and oily, and the only way I can describe it, is to tell you that if I were to run into a window, you’d see oil and dry flakes in the same place. Yeah, I’m an anomaly like that.
I can’t really talk up a bar of soap to make you think it was made by Jesus (but in this case, it may as well be for how much I love it), but the main things are that it lathers well, which is hard to find in a natural soap. It lasts FOREVER. I bought my bar of soap back in the spring and there’s still more than half left. It cleans well, without stripping your skin of all of its features (my sister, whose face resembles the Exxon Valdese was skeptical, as she tends to prefer expensive chemically laden face washes, was very impressed) and best of all, it’s inexpensive. You can’t beat the price for the quality of the product.
Also, their liquid soaps are great for a multitude of things. And they also go a long way.
Dr. Bronner’s uses all organic ingredients and were recently certified USDA organic, as well as certified fair trade. And they use minimal packaging, which I love.
We give all of Dr. Bronner’s soaps the LovelyMama Seal of Approval!

Lots of organic skin and body care contains coconut derived ingredients and some contain coconut oil. Since I have started greening my beauty routines I have become far more interested in home made spa recipes. One ingredient I found to be particularly awesome is Organic Coconut Oil. You can buy a jar of it in the natural foods section of the grocery store (or online) and while yes, it is great for cooking (stir fry!) it is also a really moisturizing emollient.
Coconut oil is great for dry skin… and we’ve all had our bouts of the flakiness come winter months, while some of use suffer from more persistent dryness. A coconut oil massage before a shower or bath can do wonders for your skin. Some recommend using it on dry hair as a “mask” to restore shiny frizz free hair. Some of us have dry spots in areas like cuticles, elbows, knees, lips and feet.
The nice part about it is, in the jar its in a solid form and only turns to oil once warmed up with your hands. One of my peeves with some body oils is the utter mess I make applying them. Its on the floor, on the counter and all over the bottle. Since coconut oil is in a sold state at room temperature applying it is considerably less messy.
Something else to note is the lack of fragrance. When I bought a jar my immediate assumption was that I’d open the jar and smell the tropical no mistaking scent of coconuts. Not the case. It is completely odorless when bought this way. (Extra Virgin Coconut Oil has that telltale coconut smell)
LovelyMama Moisturizing Body Scrub
- 1/2 cup organic coconut oil
- 1 cup organic raw sugar (or fine)
- 1-2 drops of lavender essential oil (orange oil works well for a day scrub)
Mix organic coconut oil, sugar and 1-2 drops of essential oil of choice (I like lavender but some people don’t so choose whatever strikes your fancy). You can let this solidify a bit in the refrigerator if you want a solid scrub or use it as a warm oil scrub. Scrub gently all over and rinse.
Edited to add: Lovely reader Rachael wrote in to remind us that coconut oil can also be used as a sexual lubricant! Nice! However not suitable for use with condoms and beware if you have any kind of coconut related allergies… that could get ugly. Thanks Rachael!

This product isn’t really new news for many, and I’ve seen it mentioned on various beauty sites, but I couldn’t very well not dedicate a post to it considering the nature of this lotion. I hesitate to call it that because when I think of lotion a certain texture comes to mind and Weleda Skin Food most certainly doesn’t fit that idea, and I’ll tell you why.
My creams, lotions and balms fall into 3 categories. 1) After-shower, 2) Desk worthy, and 3) Nightstand. After shower potions need to be luxurious but not overly greasy, although I am known to indulge in body oil from time to time. Desk worthy items need to be ultra moisturizing but MUST absorb fast because I don’t have time to wait during my peak 3 hours of alone/work time waiting for oils or butters to soak in. Greasy keyboards are not cool. Finally, the nightstand group. This coveted spot goes to products that earned my love and devotion. They can be thick and creamy and suitable for overnight moisturizer. Weleda Skin Food falls into this category.
It comes out looking almost like some kind of epoxy used to glue things together but once its distributed it does actually feed your skin. This stuff is great for stubborn rough spots, hands, cuticles, elbows, knees, etc. I recommend night use so it has a chance to soak in – but I am also known to use this on car trips when I’m not driving. (I like to do little spa treatments in the car on long trips).
Weleda is one of the few companies I trust 100% and feel better knowing that their products aren’t filled with parabens, phthalates, or synthetic ingredients. They have a vast collection of products, many of which I use and love. This one is no different. This cream is like dessert for your skin.
Get Some: You can find small sample sizes and full sizes of Weleda Skin Food right now at your local Target, or online on Amazon.com, or direct from Weleda’s Online Store. (I am just dying to try the Foot Cream now…)

We’ve long been a fan of BeeCeuticals products. Besides the fact that they work well, they also work very hard at maintaining a product that is consistently of the highest quality. Kathy raved about BeeCeuticals not once, but twice. So of course I had to give this stuff a whirl. I got the Honey Thyme lotion and I have to say, for lotion, it’s heavenly. I love that it’s not overly greasy, but it moisturizes well. I use it when I get out of the shower, and before bed and reach for it when I just need a nice hand cream. The other thing I really love about them is the fact that the smell is natural and light, and also not lavender. One thing about switching over to natural products that are scented with essential oils, is that I cannot stand the smell of conventional products. The artificial perfumes are noxious and overpowering. Let’s not even get into the fact that they’re horrible for you. I just don’t like to have my nasal passage assaulted with the smell of fake peonies.
Aside of the fact that this stuff rocks my socks off, BeeCeuticals also rocks my socks off. Why? Well:
- They use as many certified organic ingredients as possible
- They use fair trade ingredients when possible
- Free of icky chemicals such as parabens, phthalates, SLS’s etc
- Biodegradable
- Sustainable
- And of course, not tested on animals.
Best of all, it’s not that expensive. I’ve seen smaller jars of safe body lotion go for twice that price and they’re not nearly as green as they claim to be.
Get It: You can order the BeeCeuticals Honey Thyme lotion right from our affiliate shop. Or you can order any of BeeCeuticals products directly from their site.
