honey lime bee soapEvery once in a while I spend a little time browsing Etsy, as many of us do.  Etsy is such a great place to find safer bath goodies and we’ve reviewed some before. My newest find is a store full of handmade soap and spa goods made by Catherine Filippeli.  Her store is chock full of bar and guest soaps that look good enough to eat.  With scents like Oatmeal Lavender, Ginger Mint Fig Coconut Milk, and  Pomegranite Sage you are sure to find something that suits you.pomegranite sage soap

I was attracted to her lovely Honey Lime Bee Soaps full of lime oil and honey to boost circulation and clear  congested pores.   Plus the unusual shape makes this great for guests or just for something new and fun.  Sometimes it’s nice to depart from the usual rectangle bar.  Along with lip balm, my other collection habit is bar soap – so I’ll be ordering a few to get me through the summer.  Nothing like a shower with a fresh bar of soap that smells like citrus, honey or herbs.

Many of her soaps are made with only essential oils but a few do use other scents. A quick note to Catherine and she confirmed that all of her scents and oils are phthalate free.  Sweet!

shea butter soapIt’s no secret I get hooked on certain products.  Just ask me how many lip balms I have at any given time in my purse. (Currently 6).  See? Addict.  My other secret addiction is bar soap.  I don’t know if it’s the traditional nature of bar soap or the rush I get when I open a brand new bar.  Either way, I prefer it over body washes… especially for my face.  I have sensitive skin and am prone to rosacea.  So I am on a constant hunt for an alternative to Cetaphil’s bar soap that my dermatologist recommended.  I just can’t bring myself to continue using it.

During my search I found Tilvee Eco Ethical Skin Care.  I haven’t had the opportunity to try their products out but I was giddy over the simple facts. Their products are free of all chemicals including Synthetic Fragrances, Synthetic Preservatives, Petrochemicals, Parabens, Sulfates, Phthalates and not to mention they don’t test on animals, are committed to green business practices and are signers of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics.  Can you say “love”?

As a suitable replacement for that old Cetaphil Cleansing bar I think their Shea Butter Facial Cleansing Bar might be a good contender.  People who suffer from rosacea tend to be sensitive as well as have dry patches so the gentle shea butter would be an ingredient to combat that.  Stuff is on sale right now so I might have to pick up a lip balm too.  See? Can’t ever resist.

Follow Up Review: I started using this on my face (remember…I’m sensitive with rosacea flare ups) and my skin has actually improved in the last few days of using it.  My skin isn’t as dry and dare I say my rosacea is clearing as well.  I think this is a great product.  Bye bye Cetaphil.

LuSa OrganicsOk ladies.  I have a new *must have* line of products for you.  In a late night search I found LuSa Organics.  I immediately started drooling over their products.  Since I first tried a few delectable items I jumped back online and ordered $80 more.  LuSa Organics is a family run business, a very cute family with 2 adorable little kids and a whole slew of inspired and luxurious bath goodies that cater to women, mom and baby.

I am seriously addicted, and it’s been a while since I found a line that I really truly loved in that “buy my self a girly treat” sort of way.  First, I am totally committed to their unbelievable Organic Sugar Scrubs.  I tend to LuSa Organicsprefer sugar scrubs in general but this one is really amazing because it’s not a big sloppy scrub which I find doesn’t have as much “scrub” and more “goop”.  This one though is a tin packed with organic sugar so you really get your scrubs worth on one scoop.  They smell good, they scrub great and moisturize the toughest spots.  I attribute my now smooth arms and legs to this scrub.  Seriously, even my husband commented on my softness. I.  Love.  It.  The Mint scrub leaves you feeling clean and sparkly and the Lavender scrub is a soothing treat for the skin. This is my must-have bath treat.

Also? Lotion Bars. I have never used a lotion bar before but I was dying to try it.  I don’t know if this is the right way to use one but I take the whole thing out of its pretty tin and rub it all over feet and hands before bed.  I swear, he next morning I wake up with the softest feet and hands.  My lavender Lotion Bar is now a permanent fixture on my night stand.  These are great for traveling too, no trying to drag a big silly pump in your travel bag or risking a tube opening up accidentally.  Lotion Bar is my new staple beauty item.

Their fresh goats milk handcrafted soaps are all unbelievably fresh smelling.  I have a bar of Ylang Ylang and Lavender in my shower and I reach for it over all the others. It lathers perfectly and the smell… oh heaven.

I could go on for eternity, but I assure you all their products are divine.  They carry Belly Balms, Diaper Balms, Essential Oils… I promise you, you will not be disappointed.  LuSa Organics has a cool Soap of the Month Club too which would make a great gift (HINT HINT) and they have some lovely Gift Collections for New Mom and Baby.

Lovely SafeMama Winner! Ok not only do I absolutely adore this company and their products but everything they carry is totally natural, organic when possible and they use sustainable and local ingredients to craft their wonderful goodies. I’d been on the hunt for a new soap for awhile.  A long time Cetaphil girl, I was looking to find something that would be safe, and also work as well on my face.  I’m leery of bar soaps, because they tend to dry out my face more than a traditional face wash, but I was having a hard time finding a liquid face wash that lathered enough to make my face feel clean.

I walked by the Dr. Bronner’s display quite a few times, eyeing it up cautiously before finally relenting and purchasing a bar.  And I really wish I hadn’t waited so long,  because I really love it.  I tend to have combination skin, and not the typical T-zone.   My face is both dry and oily, and the only way I can describe it, is to tell you that if I were to run into a window, you’d see oil and dry flakes in the same place.  Yeah, I’m an anomaly like that.

I can’t really talk up a bar of soap to make you think it was made by Jesus (but in this case, it may as well be for how much I love it), but the main things are that it lathers well, which is hard to find in a natural soap.  It lasts FOREVER.  I bought my bar of soap back in the spring and there’s still more than half left.  It cleans well, without stripping your skin of all of its features (my sister, whose face resembles the Exxon Valdese was skeptical, as she tends to prefer expensive chemically laden face washes, was very impressed) and best of all, it’s inexpensive.   You can’t beat the price for the quality of the product.

Also, their liquid soaps are great for a multitude of things.  And they also go a long way.

Dr. Bronner’s uses all organic ingredients and were recently certified USDA organic, as well as certified fair trade.  And they use minimal packaging, which I love.

We give all of Dr. Bronner’s soaps the LovelyMama Seal of Approval!
